About the Event:
Join Peace Through Action USA for a free 90-minute virtual learning event exploring Community Violence Intervention (CVI) and the ways communities are working to prevent and reduce violence. We’ll examine approaches rooted in local knowledge, trusted relationships, and community engagement, with a focus on how these efforts help create safer communities.
The session will cover a range of CVI strategies, including street outreach, violence interruption, hospital-based violence intervention, and other community-centered approaches. Through real-world examples and discussion, we’ll explore how these strategies work in practice, the factors that contribute to their effectiveness, and the challenges communities face in putting them into action.
The session will also feature guided reflection, interactive activities, and small-group conversation. We’ll examine the importance of community trust, local partnerships, and sustained engagement in violence intervention efforts, as well as opportunities for individuals and organizations to support this work.
During the session, you will:
- Develop a foundational understanding of Community Violence Intervention (CVI) and its role in preventing and reducing violence.
- Explore different CVI approaches and how they work to interrupt cycles of violence and strengthen community safety.
- Examine the roles of credible messengers, community organizations, and local partnerships in supporting effective intervention efforts.
- Analyze real-world examples of CVI initiatives to identify common strategies, challenges, and opportunities.
- Identify practical ways to learn more about, support, or contribute to community-based violence intervention efforts.
Whether you work in community organizations, education, public service, or peacebuilding, or simply have an interest in preventing violence, this session offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of CVI and discover how communities can create safer environments.
