The National Week of Conversation was created for people who are tired of division and searching for ways to turn down the heat without turning away from one another. It asks something simple of us:
Listen first. Choose curiosity. Stay in the room.

This week, Peace Through Action® USA is launching Peace Through Action Meet-Ups as a way for people to take part in that national call at the local level.
Meet-Ups are small group conversations guided by everyday people. Participants explore what concerns them, how those concerns connect to their values, and how they want to engage going forward. The focus is not on winning arguments. It is on strengthening understanding and identifying constructive paths forward.

“We are pleased to launch Peace Through Action Meet-Ups at this very time in our national life. This activity will be a help to those of us everyday people who are tired of the contentious social state of our communities and country and who want to do something about it,” said Quinn Speaker, Peace Through Action® USA chair. “We hope Peace Through Action Meet-Ups will bring people into conversations with their families, friends, and neighbors about the future we want, and what each of us can do to build it,” said Speaker.

Conversation with care
The National Week of Conversation reminds us that disagreement can be healthy but only when it’s grounded in respect and empathy. Meet-Ups are designed with that same spirit. They create space for listening, reflection, and shared humanity, even when perspectives differ.

A volunteer led invitation
Peace Through Action Meet-Ups are led by volunteers; people willing to host conversations where everyone can be heard. During National Volunteer Month, this launch highlights an accessible way to contribute to community well being.
“There are many practical solutions to the social distress we face. Peace Through Action Meet-Ups helps people figure out which of those solutions are in their power to act,” said Bob Reeg, Peace Through Action® USA chief executive officer. “Everyone can do something to increase peace in their relationships and communities. Peace Through Action Meet-Ups shows people how,” said Reeg.

You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be willing to guide a process that helps others stay connected and choose thoughtful action.
As the National Week of Conversation unfolds, Meet-Ups offer one way to carry its values into everyday life and keep the conversation going.
