About the Event:
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, Peace Through Action USA hosted Beyond Vigilantism: Gandhi’s Vision for Constructive Action, a free virtual event exploring how Gandhi’s Constructive Programs offer practical, nonviolent solutions to modern social challenges.
Amid rising frustrations with systemic injustices, our discussion examined how nonviolence is more than just resistance. It is about building alternatives that uplift communities and provide sustainable solutions to injustice.
Led by special guest speakers Erin Thompson (M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence) and representatives from the Metta Center for Nonviolence, participants:
- Learned about Gandhi’s philosophy of Satyagraha (truth-force) and its relevance today.
- Explored Gandhi’s Salt March and Spinning Wheel Movement as models for economic and social self-sufficiency.
- Engaged in real-world applications through a case study discussion and collaborative problem-solving activities.
- Identified concrete steps for applying Communal Harmony, Inclusion, and Self-Reliance in their own communities.
This event encouraged participants to rethink justice and explore how nonviolence can be an active and powerful force for social transformation.
