Event: Exploring Black History: Reflecting on Greenwood & the Tulsa Race Massacre
Date: Tuesday, February 27th
Time: 7:00 – 8:00 PM ET
Location: Virtual via ZOOM
About the Event:
In honor of Black History Month, Peace Through Action USA hosted a free virtual event titled: “Exploring Black History: Reflecting on Greenwood & the Tulsa Race Massacre” where we explored the history and legacy of the Tulsa Race Massacre, one of the worst acts of racial violence and terrorism in American history. Through expert insights from Greenwood Rising, an award-winning, world-class history center and museum, we honored the icons of Black Wall Street, memorialized the victims of the Massacre, and examined the lessons of the past to inspire meaningful, sustainable action in the present. This event explored narratives from Massacre survivors and profiles of historic figures, all contextualized in the history of America. This truth-telling and education for all aimed to repair lingering historical racial trauma–working toward restoration–and charting a new, vibrant, inclusive course for the future. Most importantly, this free virtual learning event supported participants in committing to racial justice and reconciliation and broadened attendees’ understanding of race relations in the United States.
