About the Event:

Join us on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm ET for a free virtual event titled “Essential Skills for Group Dialogue”

Group dialogue plays an important role in how people work through differences, especially around issues that matter in workplaces, communities, and public life. At the same time, these conversations can become tense, unbalanced, or unproductive, and it is not always clear why or what would help.
This session introduces a practical way of understanding what is happening in group dialogue and how to take part in it more effectively. Participants will learn how to recognize key dynamics within a conversation and make small, intentional contributions that can help shift how the dialogue unfolds.

The session also explores how individuals can help guide group dialogue from within. Even without a formal leadership role, participants can influence the tone, participation, and direction of a conversation in ways that support more constructive engagement.
Throughout the session, participants will work with realistic scenarios, including situations where groups are navigating disagreement, competing perspectives, or community-level issues. The session also addresses how to recognize when dialogue is working, when it is not, and when a different approach may be needed.

The session will include guided reflection, interactive practice, and small-group conversation. Participants will develop language they can imagine using in their own contexts and leave with practical tools they can apply right away.

During the session, participants will:
• Recognize key dynamics within group dialogue, including emotional intensity, participation, and conversational direction
• Understand how these dynamics shape whether a conversation becomes more or less constructive
• Practice small, realistic ways of contributing that can shift the tone, participation, or direction of a dialogue
• Explore how to help guide group dialogue, even without a formal leadership role
• Identify when dialogue is effective for working through an issue and when it may not be the right approach

Whether you are part of conversations in your workplace, community, or other group settings, this session offers practical ways to engage more thoughtfully and help move conversations in a more constructive direction.
